GRADE 130/140 (2160 N/mm2) EXTRA EXTRA IMPROVED PLOW TYPE (EEIPS)
GRADE 120/130 (1960 N/mm2) EXTRA IMPROVED PLOW TYPE (EIPS)

Used in the manufacture of wire ropes for special installations where maximum rope strength is required and conditions of use permit some applications such as mine shaft hoisting where increased tonnages on existing skips and drums can be tolerated, and where other conditions such as sheave and drum diameters are favourable to its use.

GRADE 110/120 (1770 N/mm2)IMPROVED PLOW (IPS)

Has a remarkable combination of high tensile strength, tough wearing qualities and excellent fatigue resistant properties. By far the largest tonnage of wire rope is made of this strength grade.

Types of Core

An important point to consider is the selection of the proper type core required in the rope. Wire ropes are made with either fiber core or steel wire core.

Fiber Core (FC)

This core is made of either natural fibers or polypropylene and offers greater flexibility than the Independent Wire Rope Core.

Independent Wire Rope Core (IWRC)

This core is usually composed of a separate 7 x 7 wire rope designated as IWRC. The steel core increases the strength by 7% and the weight by 10%. These steel cores provide more substance support than fiber cores to the outer strands during the rope’s operating life. Steel centers resist crushing, are more resistant to heat and increase the strength of the rope

Design Factor

The design factor, being the ratio between the minimum breaking load of the rope and the working load limit (WLL), tells at what percentage of its ultimate strength a wire rope is operating. The Design Factor takes into consideration both normal rope wear and potential stresses in various applications. The best practice in determining an adequate design factor is to analyze the specific conditions involved in each individual installation. The normal design factor used with wire rope is 5:1.

Sheave Alignment

Proper alignment of sheaves is essential. The main sheave should line up with the center of the hoisting drum, otherwise both the rope and sheave flanges will be subjected to severe wear and rapid deterioration will occur. If rope speeds are high, sheaves should also be balanced.

Warning

Wire rope products will break if abused, misused or overused. Regular inspection and maintenance are necessary. Attachments such as hooks, shackles etc. must have at least the same working load limit as the wire rope used. Consult industry recommendations and standards before using.

Alternate Lay

  • When a center wire is replaced by a strand, it is considered as a single wire, and the rope classification remains unchanged.
  • There are, of course, many other types of wire rope, which are useful for specific applications.
  • Consult your Hercules SLR representative for further information on any other wire rope constructions.

Contains 6 strands that are made up of 15 through 26 wires, of which
no more than 12 are outside wires.

6 X 37

Contains 6 strands that are made up of 27 through 49 wires, of which
no more than 18 are outside wires.

8 X 19

Contains 8 strands that are made up of 15 through 26 wires, of which
no more than 12 are outside wires.

19 X 7 / 18 X 7 IWRC

Contains 19 strands, each strand is made up of 7 wires. It is manufactured by covering an inner rope of 7 x 7 left lang lay construction with 12 strands in right regular lay. IWRC traditional style standard type rotation resistant rope mainly used on older mobile truck and yard cranes. CSAZ-248 does NOT allow this rope to be used on tower cranes. Known as rotation resistant rope.

35 X 7

Non-rotating wire rope with 16 outer strands, complies with CSA Z-248 to be used on tower cranes. This wire also has application with most European type mobile cranes and offshore cranes. Available in both
left and right hand langs lay construction.

7 X 7

Contains 7 stands with 7 wires, galvanized or stainless commercial grade aircraft cable.

7 x 19

Contains 7 stands with 19 wires galvanized or stainless commercial grade aircraft cable.

1 x 7

Contains 7 steel wires twisted into a single strand.

1 x 19

Contains 19 steel wires twisted into a single strand.

Rotation Resistant 19 x 7 IWRC Wire Rope

  • The rotation resistant 19X7 class wire rope is recommended for hoisting unguided loads with a single part line. It is not intended to be used with a swivel.
  • The rotation resistant 19X7 class wire rope offers excellent rotation-resistance by laying 6 strands around a core in one direction and 12 strands around the first set of strands in the opposite direction. When under tension, the opposing rotational forces work in tandem to create excellent rotation resistance.
  • While having a superior rotation-resistance compared to 8X19 class wire rope, the 19X7 has smaller wires which more susceptible to damage from abrasion. Careful and regular inspection of 19X7 for broken strands or wires is highly recommended
  • Standard finish is bright.
  • Manufactured in accordance with RR-W-410 standards.
  • Nominal breaking strengths slightly vary by manufacturer
